Somali PM meets global leaders at Davos, Switzerland

Somalia’s Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre who is in Davos, Switzerland attending the World Economic Forum has met leaders across the globe discussing key economic issues. Among the leaders he met include, Qatari’s Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mohamed Abdulrahman Al Thani discussing several subjects such as economy, security and infrastructure.

“We have discussed with the Deputy Prime Minister on how to strengthen economic ties between two countries and expatiate on how to implement projects being initiated by the Qatari government in Somalia,” said PM Kheyre.

Similarly, the PM has met International Monetary Fund (IMF) Director Christine Lagarde on the margins of the forum and briefed each other on the progress on key projects being implemented by IMF. The underlying economic conditions in Somalia remains difficult but the government is making strong efforts to rebuild Somalia.

“Somalia’s debt relief is a priority for the IMF and every effort is being made to accelerate the process within established procedures,” said Mrs Lagarde.

The 48th World Economic Forum brings together over 2,500 participants from 100 countries.

The theme for this year’s WEF conference ‘Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World’ is aimed to discuss to renewed commitment to international as a way of solving critical global challenges.
