Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre Names new Ministers

Mogadishu, Somalia – 13 December 2025 The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre has (on Saturday 13th of December, 2025) announced two new ministers in his cabinet aimed at strengthening government performance and accelerating the implementation of national priorities particularly in the areas of economic development and public infrastructure.
Ambassador Jamal Mohamed Hassan has been appointed as the new Minister of Commerce and Industry replacing the former minister. Ambassador Jamal brings extensive diplomatic and administrative experience to the role which is considered vital to advancing Somalia’s economic growth, trade development, and private sector engagement.
In a separate decree, Mr. Ayuub Ismail Yusuf was appointed as the new Minister of Public Works and Reconstruction succeeding the former minister. His appointment is expected to enhance the implementation of national infrastructure reconstruction, and urban development projects that are critical to Somalia’s recovery and long-term development.
The cabinet shake-up forms part of ongoing government reforms aimed at improving institutional efficiency strengthening service delivery and ensuring the effective execution of national transformations programs. The changes take effect immediately and are issued in accordance with the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia, in consultation with the president.
The Government reaffirmed its commitment to advancing stability economic growth and sustainable development for the benefit of all Somali citizens.
