PM Hamza Abdi Barre: The Somali Government is Focused on Strengthening Security and Democracy
The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, who participated in the celebration of Europe Day, praised the European Union and its member states for their role in supporting Somalia.
The Prime Minister stated that the European Union stood by Somalia during its most difficult periods, particularly through humanitarian assistance, state-building efforts, institutional development, security support, and economic reforms, all of which played a major role in the country’s progress.
Mr. Hamza Abdi Barre noted that Somalia is making tangible progress, as the government continues to focus on rebuilding institutions, strengthening security, advancing the economy, expanding social services, and accelerating an inclusive democratic process.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that the Somali government is planning to implement one-person, one-vote elections, allowing Somali citizens to directly elect their leaders. He emphasized that the country’s leadership is committed to consultation and consensus-building in order to strengthen national security and unity.
Finally, Prime Minister Hamza called on all political stakeholders to participate in the national consultations initiated by the government while safeguarding the national interest and the unity of the Somali people.
“At this critical stage of nation-building, our country needs constructive dialogue and cooperation, not political confusion; sustainable solutions, not endless conflict; unity and a cohesive nation, not division among society,” said Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
