Council of Ministers Reviews National Examinations, Security, and the Country’s Development Agenda

The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia held its weekly meeting today, during which it received statistical reports on the 2025–2026 National Examinations for Intermediate and Secondary Schools, as well as updates on the country’s security, economic, and social conditions.

The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, also reviewed key reports on preparations for the upcoming Independence and Unity Day celebrations, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for Somalia, which focuses on advancing the country’s national development priorities.

The Council commended the peaceful conclusion of the one-person, one-vote election in the South West State. It extended special appreciation to the Second Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Jibril Abdirashid Haji, who served as the Interim Leader of the administration during the transitional period and the electoral process.

The Council of Ministers strongly condemned the visit by the leader of the Somaliland administration to the Palestinian territories under Israeli occupation. The Council stated that the action constitutes a clear violation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia, international law, and the principles of respecting the sovereignty of states and the rights of oppressed peoples.

The Council also praised the Somali Security Forces for their continued efforts to safeguard the security of the capital by preventing acts intended to undermine the country’s peace, stability, and ongoing development.

Finally, the Council approved by majority vote the appointment of Mr. Mohamed Hassan Nur as a member of the Independent Human Rights Commission of Somalia. Mr. Nur, a senior legal expert, was selected through a competitive and transparent recruitment process following the vacancy created by the departure of a previous commissioner.
