Mogadishu; Monday, November 26, 2018 –H.E Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire today received a high level delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC) who are on a three-day official visit to Somalia.
The AU-PSC delegation was led by Djibouti’s Ambassador to African Union and Ethiopia, Amb. Mohamed Idriss Farah, who is the current chair of the AU PSC. Amb Mohamed Farah acknowledged the exceptional reception they received from the PM who welcomed them to what he termed as their second home.
“We are much impressed by the warm reception you accorded us. Our presence here signifies how highly we regard Somalia. We have always strived to cooperate with your Nation on what is of common importance to all AU member States”; noted the Chairman and head of delegation, adding that their visit was aimed at assessing the current political situation in the country as well as the status of the Somali Transitional Plan which is aimed at gradually handing over security mandate to the Somali Security Forces.
The Prime Minister on his part expressed his gratitude to the delegation and welcomed them to the Somali Capital. “I am tremendously grateful to the African Union for their immeasurable sacrifices towards Somalia. No amount of appreciations can sufficiently express our gratitude towards the AU. You lost men and women here. Some of your States bore the brunt of your solidarity with Somalia. You were attacked inside your countries but you did not falter”.
The PM further gave a comprehensive and articulate outline of his Government’s Roadmaps towards achieving a prosperous and peaceful Somalia. He emphasized that the security sector does not exist in a vacuum and as such, in order to realize the Transitional Plan, other key sectors had to be reformed, including Economic Recovery & Growth, Social Services & Human Development as well as establishing an all-inclusive Political Process.
The PM called on the AU to rally the international community in supporting the Federal Government towards achieving these objectives. He clarified that the country has the toolbox but need the requisite tools to ensure attaining milestones in the roadmaps.
